How I went from growing up on a tropical island without TV to coaching A-list actors and professional speakers

A curious child

As a child, I was always doing voices and telling stories. It all began when I grew up from a young age in Vanuatu (a South Pacific island off the east coast of Australia). I went to French schools there, spoke some of the island creole language Bislama and we sang Maori songs in the playground.

With no TV on the island, my ears swam in the global voices and sounds surrounding us ... dialects, languages and cultural music. We'd play my parents' vast record collection and I mimicked what I heard ... a French singer, a British comedian, a Broadway musical, a Disney animated fox.

Years later in Australia, I continued at a French primary school and spoke Australian English at home. Life was a normal, daily experience of shifting my voice, language and culture. And so began my path of creative vocal expression.

From play to profession

That childhood love of sounds and stories soon evolved into a love of theatre and singing. This led me to train as a professional actor, singer and voice-over artist. I graduated drama school with a Bachelor of Arts (Acting) degree, then toured Australia and New Zealand performing in 2,000 seat theatres, was the Guest Singer at a VIP Dinner for the Prime Minister of Australia, and recorded hundreds of voice-overs for leading brands.

After a decade as a performer, I went back to full-time study and graduated with my Post Graduate Voice degree from the renowned National Institute of Dramatic Art (NIDA) in Sydney. I spent the next 10 years balancing my career as an actor and coach before retiring from performing and dedicating myself to my coaching business.

What I love as a coach is that I've walked in a performer's shoes and excelled in the very fields I now guide others through. I've gone on to coach feature films, TV series, plays, musicals, cabarets and internationally televised live events watched by millions. I've lectured at prestigious performing arts training institutions, including 12 years as a Lecturer at NIDA on the BFA Acting and MFA Voice degrees and teacher on NIDA’s Open Program courses for members of the public.

And now, I also work extensively with creative or holistic non-actor professionals, groups and organisations to help you elevate your voices, stories and live or recorded work with purpose and passion.

By combining leading voice and performance coaching with techniques drawn from human psychology and holistic practices such as mindfulness and breathwork, I help my clients transform their delivery so it’s not just heard – it’s truly felt.

It's a privilege to coach some of the finest actors in the global acting industry for their screen and stage roles. Likewise, it's a true joy training non-actor professionals working in creative or holistic fields in voice, storytelling and delivery for their live or recorded work. The same elite techniques I share with acclaimed actors can powerfully elevate and transform professional speakers — where movie magic meets the mainstream.

My coaching philosophy isn't just about skills improvement. It's not about simply speaking and storytelling. It's about creating artistic excellence with authenticity and joy. It's captivating audiences with methodology, mastery and magic.
